1. I started the conversion by mocking up a representative spare, centering it on the rear crossmember. The winder will be mounted on the rear surface of this member. You can see the cut-off old spare pivot-bolt sticking down. Notice the smaller crossbar that is bolted to the frame as well. This is a U-channel and, together with the large crossmember, will be a resting place for the tire when in the up position. More about that later.
