Once the new Stewart pump was dry enough to handle (I’d painted it Chevy Orange to match the rest of the engine) I slid it onto the mounting studs. It was at this point that I ran into the only minor hiccup in the whole install. The factory timing-cover bolts holding the cast cover to the 383 block have a rather tall hex head. One bolt head was tall enough that it touched the pump before it was even mated to the block (look close at the center of the image and you’ll see the offending bolt).
