There were a couple of options for correcting the body bolt recess; we could have cut it out and patched the metal or hammered it out. We opted to off-dolly hammer it flat, mainly to practice the technique. We got it nearly flat, and with a little heat shrinking with a torch, it would have disappeared completely. The dolly was moved around the perimeter of the recess as we hit the dome with the hammer, moving the metal. This was our first attempt at off-dolly shrinking, and it was passable, so it’s definitely within a novice’s abilities. We’ll be better at it once we buy a torch.
