Good progress continues to be made on our sister magazine's Project Shop Truck, STREET RODDER's in-the-works '47 Chevy pickup built entirely with easy-to-find aftermarket parts. Sticking to new stuff has eliminated a lot of the hours and effort that goes into repairing or replacing worn-out components, but even with fresh-out-of-the-box, high-quality parts, this isn't exactly like snapping together a kit. There's a lot of fabricating to be done and figuring out the best way to make everything work has been a big part of this project. Luckily, everybody at Hot Rods By Dean (HRBD), where the '47 is being built, has a knack for that and has kept this buildup moving forward.

Last month, we showed you the front and rear glass going in, and the windshield wiper system being installed. This month, we're back at HRBD to follow the installation of the fuel system. With the exception of the mounting straps, these are all Aeromotive parts, which were ordered through the Summit Racing website.

Since they'll be driving this truck all over creation with long distances between gas stops, they opted for a nice, big 20-gallon cell. And since Editor Brian Brennan is excited about dropping the new emission-compliant GM Performance Parts E-Rod LS3 engine between the fenders, they made sure to run a high-pressure dual-line system with a return line to the tank. The guys down the hall at Chevy High Performance magazine reminded them that although GM has been using high-pressure returnless systems on its later LS engines, transplant projects and buildups like this one need a dual-line system. So follow along and see just how HRBD's staff went about this upgrade, you may garner a few tricks and ideas that might come in handy, especially if there's a possible fuel injection upgrade in your future.
