Once the long-block was ready the next step was installing the new intake manifold. One thing I forgot to mention earlier is that Vortec heads have a different intake bolt pattern than the older-style heads and intake (though RHS heads are drilled and tapped for both styles) so keep that in mind if you're doing a swap using OEM Vortec heads on an earlier engine. Barkley chose to use a Weiand No. 8121 Action Plus. The Action Plus is a low-rise dual-plane design that produces lots of low-end torque and a powerband that runs from idle through 5,500 rpm. Another thing to keep in mind is that this intake utilizes late-model alternator and A/C brackets and positions, and is recommended to be used with a Holley 570- or 670-cfm carburetor (Barkley chose the 670 cfm for use on this engine).
