After disconnecting the battery and draining the cooling system, start by removing the heater control unit, or control head, as Classic Auto Air refers to it. There are two screws holding it under the dash. After it is out, disconnect the cables from the levers in the back.

Also disconnect the cables at the heater box inside the cab and then remove the box itself. There are a few nuts on the other side of the firewall that need to be removed first. The stereo, glovebox door, and glovebox liner also need to come out.

Getting the heater box off the firewall is easier said than done. It is a close fit between the blower motor, inner fender, and hood hinge. Removing the assembly requires loosening either the hood hinge or inner fender to give access to the bolts. Once out, trim this vertical piece from the firewall.

With things cleaned up, the block-off plates from Classic Auto Air could be installed. The big plate has five holes in it for the new A/C fittings and wiring. The round plate gets snugged down with provided self-tapping screws.

Now, with the A/C unit (aka Power Pack) on the bench, grab its wiring harness and start hooking it up to the micro switches on the Power Pack according to the wiring diagram in the instructions. The blue wires hook to the micro switches in series. There are a couple that go to the new blower motor as well as the thermostat.

Once wired up, it's time to install the Power Pack under the dash. It can really only fit in one way once the tubes are inserted through the holes in the block-off plate in the firewall. Also check for clearance around the right side, and when everything looks good, secure it with the provided self-tapping screws. It's good to have a helper/spotter during this step.
