Chevy LS1 Engine Setup - Fun With Fuel Injection
It's amazing what a few hours,... It's amazing what a few hours, some wrenching, and elbow grease will do! Obviously all the extraneous stock parts were removed; some will be reused and a good amount will be tossed. The intake was removed to not only double-check the unknown condition of the internals, but to be able to make a few mods to the intake without contaminating the engine. | There are a couple of stock... There are a couple of stock holes in the intake that need to be tapped and plugged. We're going to keep the stock, tall truck intake because it is designed for low-end torque, and the C-10 does tip the scales a tad over 4,000 pounds. | Turn Key makes this adapter... Turn Key makes this adapter to simplify the intake air temperature sensor setup... | ...The new sensor is held... ...The new sensor is held in the intake via a distributor-style clamp and single bolt. Simplifying the stock engine harness and controls is the name of the game here and will make a clean installation later. | The stock manifold absolute... The stock manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor goes back on top of the intake. The MAP sensor is one of the components that help the electronic control unit (ECU) constantly determine how much fuel to deliver for proper air/fuel mixture. | After blowing out the intake... After blowing out the intake with compressed air to remove any plastic bits left over from tapping, Chris lowers the lightweight composite intake into place. Some of these factory gaskets are reusable, but when in doubt, pick up a set of new ones. | Next up, the stock fuel lines... Next up, the stock fuel lines prior to the fuel rails need to be replaced with ones that Turn Key modifies to use readily available -6 AN fittings in lieu of the factory setup. These are also available in stainless steel for those wanting to dress up their engine and look great with Turn Key's billet fuel rails. | If you are using junkyard... If you are using junkyard parts like we are, you should also check and clean the fuel filter where gas enters the fuel rails. This is not only proper maintenance, but also cheap insurance for parts with an unknown amount of miles on them. | The stock injectors proved... The stock injectors proved to be in good shape, so they stayed on the fuel rails, and everything except for the old gas and dirt goes back on. There are O-rings on the injectors that should be oiled lightly so they don't tear as they are reinstalled. All of these fuel system components should be cleaned thoroughly prior to reinstallation and blown out with compressed air. | There's a series of stock... There's a series of stock steel lines under the intake that are cooling passage vents that won't be used... | ...Turn Key solved this by... ...Turn Key solved this by making blockoffs for the rear and a simple crossover tube for the front, which eliminates much of the stock bulkiness. | The oil level sensor isn't... The oil level sensor isn't going to be used since hopefully most of us are smart enough to check it regularly... |
