The Painless Powerstar high-amp alternator has a four-wire plug that, if you so choose, you can use for a low-voltage "dummy" light, a remote voltage step-up, or down feature for those with 16-volt racing systems. And there's a remote voltage sensing mode that, when hooked up, will keep the voltage output even more stable if you have lots of accessories. | I fixed the hacked up, black current-output wire to clean things up even more before connecting it to the output lug on the back of the new alternator. If your stock wiring is questionable, Painless has a high-output wire kit (P/N 30709), but make sure you use at least 12-Gauge wire. |
After ensuring I hadn't left any loose ends, I reconnected the battery and, with a test light, I checked for power at the output lug and it was a success! After re-tensioning the V-belt, it was time to start the engine up. |
