Behind the Torq-Thrusts, less time was spent detailing as it was making sure everything was safe and secure--that means cotter pins where necessary, brake line fittings tightened, and steering joints inspected and lubed (and replaced if required).

The master cylinder (closest to the engine) needs to be replaced with a dual-chamber disc/drum type. The other rusty clump of metal on the firewall is the hydraulic clutch master cylinder. My truck was converted to an automatic trans, so its only purpose now is to seal the firewall.

While the old master has studs pressed into it, the new Raybestos one doesn't. I decided to go ahead and use some Grade 8 bolts, washers, and nuts to secure the new master cylinder to the firewall. Double check that the brake pushrod has some play before it contacts the master cylinder piston. Usually 1/8-inch of play is sufficient, otherwise you may experience some rear brake lockup problems.

With the wheels back on the truck, just the appearance of having disc brakes makes a world of a difference! Now we get to break them in and go for a test drive. Pick a nice safe stretch of road and make some repeated stops (gradually increasing pedal pressure and vehicle speed) to break in or "bed" the pads. If your experience is like mine, you already noticed a huge improvement!
