After swapping the old wheel studs into the new Yukon axles, they are slid into the housing. Before the axles go in, make sure to reinstall the backing plates!

Next Brett installs the pinion shaft into the Eaton with the hole for the cross-bolt toward the outside. The pinion shaft has a machined flat spot on each side that the axles butt up against, and it keeps them from coming in too far.

Brett and I laid down some fresh black paint on the rearend, and while we waited for it to dry, I snapped some shots of PML's 12-bolt snazzy diff cover. Not only does this sand-cast finned aluminum cover look good, but it holds an extra quart of gear oil, too!

Easily dwarfing the stock stamped steel cover, it's easy to see why PML's American-made diff cover holds all that extra gear oil, plus it has a drain plug, which can't be said about the stock unit. These are available for most integral carrier axles and come either raw like this, black powdercoated, or polished. PML has valve covers and tranny pans, too.
