Chevy C10 Drop Kit - Let's Get Down!
Tada! With the new shocks... Tada! With the new shocks on, the McGaughy's frontend transformation was complete. I can't wait to get it down on the ground! | Out back, the operation is... Out back, the operation is fairly simple. First, remove the shocks. | With the rearend supported... With the rearend supported by jackstands, the bolts that mount the coil springs need to be removed. The ones in the top are kinda tricky to get to-you need an open end wrench to hold the nut inside the frame while loosening the bolt going through the cup. It might be a good idea to hit all this hardware with penetrating oil a day or two before trying this, depending on your undercarriage. | The bolts that hold the bottom... The bolts that hold the bottom of the coil in place are 5 inches long and go all the way through the trailing arm, which can lead to problems. One of mine was stubborn for quite a while, and I thought it was gonna break a couple of times, but time, penetrating oil, and a couple of square hits with a big hammer finally got it. And yes,you should go buy new bolts! | Here's a shot of the stock... Here's a shot of the stock coil on the left and the McGaughy's 4-inch drop coil on the right. It is indeed 4 inches shorter. | More time was spent cleaning... More time was spent cleaning and painting to prep for the new stuff to go in, but it does go easily in the reverse order with new hardware. | I waited to tighten the bolts... I waited to tighten the bolts on each end of the coil until they were both started. | The new shocks went in without... The new shocks went in without a hitch. | Next up was putting the new... Next up was putting the new Cragar S/S wheels on. On the front, I got a spacer to run with the new wheels to avoid clearance issues. The lugs for the front wheels are just 1/8 inch longer than the regular ones, but a little bit goes a long way! |
