On Sunday, May 31, 2009, our friend and fellow street rodder Joe Mayall passed away due to complications from sudden respiratory failure while in Las Vegas visiting a close friend. A memorial service is being planned and details will be posted here when they are finalized. In lieu of flowers, please make any donations to the American Diabetes Association or the charity of your choice.

Joe, the longtime editor of NSRA's StreetScene Magazine, was about a month shy of his 71st birthday and had been looking forward to a summer of street rodding activities including trips to the NSRA Nationals East in York, Pennsylvania, the L.A. Roadster Club's Father's Day show in Pomona, California, and the NSRA Rocky Mountain Nationals in Pueblo, Colorado-all in June alone. He was particularly looking forward to the 40th Anniversary Street Rod Nationals in Louisville, Kentucky this August. It would have been his 37th time to the Nationals. He told a friend recently, "When you've been a car nut all of your life and a dyed-in-the-wool street rodder since before the term was coined, being at the Street Rod Nationals is as good as it gets. I count myself very lucky to have been a part of it this many times."

As word has spread throughout his family, friends, and the entire street rodding community, it's startling clear that the depths of the sadness over his loss run deep. This blog was created as a way for those who loved Joe to share their memories and stories of the impact that he had on their lives. Here you are encouraged to share not just your condolences to all those who mourn his loss, but your favorite "Mayall Moments."
