1956 Ford F-100

Dave Bodak
Upstate New York

In October of 2006, Dave Bodak purchased this ’56 F-100 (an Arkansas native that’d made its way to New York state about 25-30 years ago). When Dave got his hands on it, it had already been treated to a new paintjob and some minor mechanical work, but there was still much to be done. With a lot of help from a few relatives, he installed new brakes, fuel lines, wheel bearings, and tuned up its original Y-block V-8 – good enough to allow it to be driven for a couple of years.

Dave planned on rebuilding the truck a bit at a time. For example, one winter he removed springs, hangers, tie-rod ends, kingpins and more, all of which were rebuilt or replaced with new. Next time he completed a total engine rebuild, installed a rebuilt two-barrel carb, and performed a quick rebuild of the three-on-the-tree tranny.

It was in between a couple of these projects in October of 2008 that Dave found the second love of his life. About a year and a half later, he and his girlfriend took the pickup out for a drive with the usual fishing trip in mind. After an enjoyable drive, the pair found a fairly remote spot and began to fish. A little while later, with neither of ’em getting any bites, Dave told his girlfriend to reel in her line so he could change her lure – without her seeing, he pulled out a rather large and obnoxious-looking engagement ring, one that had been used as a party favor, attached it to the end of her line (no way he was going to risk having her toss the real one into the water), and recast it. A short time later she reeled it in again, saw the faux ring, and asked what was up – Dave then pulled the real ring out of his pocket and popped the question.

Their wedding took place July 23, 2011, and after much planning and preparation Dave realized how much he wanted the truck to be a part of their special day so his final project before the wedding involved a new interior. After new padding and seat cover, a rubber floor mat, a few heater parts, and some sandblasting and paint, the F-100 was ready. His bride arrived at the wedding with her father behind the wheel and Dave said he couldn’t have been happier to see the two loves of his life – his F-100 and the woman he now calls his wife.
