Mopar purist, CLASSIC TRUCKS reader, and fellow Okie (born in Tulsa myself) Dannie Powell thought we’d be interested and checking out his ’72 Dodge, and we absolutely are!

Dan bought the pickup off the lot back in 1972 as a workhorse to haul his 440-cube, Six-Pack equipped ’71 Superbee drag car. Just back from “Nam” and nursing a disability inflicted there, Dan needed a little something extra to add more meaning to his stateside life and he found it a ¼ mile at a time.

Forty years and a lot of hard miles on the ol’ Dodge had earned it a bit of freshening rather than replacement. Dan did nearly all the restoration work other than bodywork, paint, and the upholstery on the new ’05 Dodge Ram seats. The pickup was treated to a fresh 340-cube small-block backed by a 727 and a 3.55:1-geared 8¾-inch rearend.

Dan also made a few modifications to the truck along the way, like replacing the fuel tank with a cell, adding Cuda grilles to the pickup’s front fenders, and removing and filling the side lamps and fuel filler opening. Dannie’s Lamborghini Orange and pearl white beauty is a shining example of cool classic Dodge pickups we hope to see more and more of as time passes. Great job Dannie and thanks for sharing!
