The wheels were on order and the motor was now ready to crank over. Keith said “he pumped the gas pedal a few times and cranked the motor over when Roger started seeing sparks.” It turns out the transmission kick down cable was left long because it was not adjusted yet and the cable arced on the alternator positive bolt and started a fire. The crazy part is that Keith put a blanket on the motor to prevent fuel reaching the fresh engine paint but it only helped fuel the flames. Keith was under the dash when Roger started yelling at him because he was going to burn the truck and possibly the shop down. After the flames were put out Roger looked at Keith and said, “It wouldn’t be a project without a few setbacks.” Keith did end up making it to Kansas City but not without the help from Nathan Porter who sent parts shipments next-day-air for three consecutive days to get the truck on the road. Special thanks to Roger Lynskey of RPL Customs Keith said, “He couldn’t thank him enough because the truck would still be in pieces.” ct
