Classic pickup lover Bob Leach always had a soft spot for ’55 to ’59 Chevys, so when he spotted this baby at a local cruise night he just had to check it out. The ’55 was built and owned by a fella named Hugh Sutton and within minutes of walking up to the truck Bob and Hugh hit it off. Hugh showed Bob some of the finer points of the Chevy and after a lot of looking and listening, Bob asked Hugh to put his name at the top of the list in the event he ever decided to sell the ’55. Well, as is often the case, Hugh decided to sell the truck to finance his next project, and as he’d promised he offered it to Bob—who jumped at the chance.

Though the Chevy was nearly perfect in Bob’s eyes he did make a couple of changes just to make it “his.” He added a pair of heavy-duty torsion bars (it has Plymouth Aspen TBS), a shift-improver kit for its 700-R4, a sunvisor over the windshield, and changed out the cloth upholstery for tan leather. Bob truly loves this pickup and is to this day extremely impressed with Hugh’s talent and workmanship. Unfortunately, not long after selling the Chevy Hugh passed away, and Bob stressed the fact that the ’55 will always be a tribute to Hugh and his family. CT
