Forty-two years ago 15-year-old Dick Switzer tagged along to the local GMC dealership with his dad to pick out a new work truck for the family farm. The pair came home with the shiny new Sea Foam Green '68 C-10 you see here.
Being a real work truck the GMC earned its keep by hauling a myriad of farm animals, coal, farm tools and implements, and, of course, the Switzer family. In fact, it was this very pickup that carried Dick on his very first date as well as to his high school graduation. Serving a family farm for years takes its toll as you might imagine, but the GMC held its own with nary a complaint. As time passed Dick held onto this metallic member of the family and recently treated it to a well-deserved rehab. The original 307 V-8 was freshened up and equipped with an Edelbrock aluminum intake and matching carb, a mild performance cam, a new set of forged pistons, and a pair of coated tube headers and a Flowmaster dual exhaust system. Dick also refreshed the paint, redid the bed floor, and refurbished the work-worn interior. The truck is still driven almost daily and is an integral part of the Switzer family-and always will be.
