Erica Steitzinger Rogers' father, Gordon, bought this '64 Chevy new on April 13 of that year and babied it up until 1987 when Erica and her husband, Ryan, got the truck. The odometer only showed 54,000 miles and a year later when Gordon died, Erica's mom gave the truck to Ryan, Erica, and their four kids for good to have fun with.
To bring the safety standards of the truck up-to-date the Rogers family gave it a frame-off rebuild, which included hopping up the original 283, but backing it with a 700R-4 trans. The 12-bolt was kept and a quick ratio power steering box and power disc/drum brakes were added with vintage American Racing wheels. Their friend Ron Lorenco Jr. of Dixie Auto Body in St. George, Utah, handled the custom body and paintwork. The bed wood is Mar-K oak stained black with eight coats of clear to give it a deep clean look.
The upholstery chores were handled by Scott Tesch, of Stitch Craft Upholstery also in St. George, who finished the interior in beige and black leather with the theme starting at the headliner flowing through the rear of the cab into the door and kick panels.
Erica drove this truck to high school and their kids will get to do the same. We think grandpa would be proud!
