Part Of The Family
I met Lee Pollard at a recent Goodguys show and asked him to send pictures of his '57 Chevy truck along with his story so I could share it with you. Here goes!
"My father purchased my '57 pickup for $600 as a father/son project in 1981, and my older brother Sam had to drive it home since I was only 14. The Chevy was in need of a total restoration, so my dad, brother, and I took everything off the frame except the cab and repaired or replaced it over the coming years.
"We overhauled the 327 V-8 that was already in it and also kept its Saginaw three-speed transmission. A few years later, I happened across a set of '62 Corvette valve covers and a '55 Cadillac air cleaner and added them to the project. The suspension is pretty close to stock. To lower the '57, I installed monoleaf springs up front and Nitro Drop shocks in the rear along with a Rancho steering stabilizer. The wheels are still the original six-lugs that I covered with real Moon discs and Diamondback
Classics whitewalls, and they look perfect for the overall late-'50s/early-'60s custom look I'm going for. The interior is gunmetal gray with a red dash and was painted by my dad in our backyard, and the upholstery is done in black and gray diamond-tuck to give it that vintage look. The bed is wood with stainless stripsand handmade stainless washers on the fenders, with a snap-on tonneau cover. also have a spare tire mounted in the bed with a matching vinyl tire cover that my wife made for me.
"I purchased a TCI Mustang II suspension kit at the '07 Charlotte Goodguysshow where my brother and I met you, and I hope to install it over the winter. I have enjoyed my truck for 26 years now and don't plan to ever sell it. Besides, I don't think my wife would let me, since we went on our first date in it."
