Good OL' BessieNo, really! Les Cummings sent us these pictures of his third-generation '55 Ford F-100 named Bessie, which is what Les and his brother Jon named it when they were just kids. Les' grandfather bought the F-100 new the same year Les was born, and the two have stayed close all these years. In the mid-'60s, Les' parents bought the truck from his grandfather's estate, and back in '98, Les' dad handed him the title and told him to take it home since he hadn't been driving it for some time due to becoming ill.
In the last few years, Les has rewired the '55 while keeping the stock six-volt system that powers the original 223 Clipper six-cylinder and four-speed; repainted it; added new kingpins and tie rod ends, brakes, glass, weatherstripping, tires, door latches; and rebuilt the rearend. All this was done without changing the truck from how Les has always known it, and was done to make sure it would stay on the road and be fun to drive for the next 50 years. Les, you are a lucky guy-we bet more readers wished they still had trucks from their childhood!
