The Apache originally came with an oak wood bed. We chose to keep our cupped, twisted, and cracked wood planks, appreciating the textural juxtaposition between the curvaceous sheetmetal wheelwells finished in glass-smooth paint and the natural ruggedness of the oak. Though definitely not factory-stock, engine-turned stainless divider strips replace the old painted-steel pieces.
Technologically, our project truck incorporates the cutting edge of what Chevrolet would put into production over the next decade-independent front suspension, front disc brakes, automatic transmission, fuel-injected engine, power windows, air conditioning, and power steering, just to name a few of their Space Age advancements.
Futuristic for the time, Chevrolet's early fuel-injection technology appeared during this era only in Corvettes and non-production stock cars. Koolant's engine features this "new" technology with the electronic tuned-port injection and air induction tubes polished and ultimately covered with a custom-made plenum for added aesthetic impact. Even the truck's most functional underside elements-fuel tank, air lines, rear axle, and driveshaft-are polished stainless and aluminum, reinforcing the vehicle's Space Age shine.
