2008 Goodguys Lone Star Nationals - Goodguys 16th Lone Star Nats

Whether you're a FoMoCo fan or not, it's pretty hard denying the fact that they did a pretty fine job with the '40-41 light-duty models, right? Tony Ozment knows this, but he also knows it's hard to beat Hemi--so he shoehorned one under the hood of his '41 bronze beauty from Oklahoma.

Chevrolet wasn't messing around in the early `40s, either! And Dick Stevens proves that with his updated and hot-rodded interpretation of their first Art Deco series offering.

If you've ever been to Bonneville, then you know there's nothing quite like it. But how many have hit the salt (as a race entrant, no less) AND toured the country--in the same vehicle, to top it all off! Charlie and Corene Burns can and do in their de-stroked '57 Ford!

Wrapping up not only the event's Finest Five, but the entire 2008 program for CLASSIC TRUCKS, is yet another third-gen F-100. But while Tom Lazear's '60 might look as if it has spent some time on the Utah salt, it's what we like to call a well-weathered driver!

Moving a bit up the year model ladder, Lone Star native Hunter Young proudly showed off his first project--a '72 Cheyenne, resplendent in modern garb (18-20-inch Billet Specialties and a full custom interior, for starters)--and went home with Finest Five honors for his efforts.

Speaking of familiar faces, John Dunn's name may ring a bell, but his '56 F-100 is a fresh one (his black Effie appeared on the April '07 cover), featuring a nice mix of styling elements, from subtle modern to bright nostalgia.

Jim Smith's '31 Ford RPU was so fresh outta the oven you could smell the blue suede icing! And as far as traditional hot rods go, this one gets high marks in all categories: style, execution, and cool factor!

The Lone Star Nats just wouldn't be complete without a few laps around Texas Motor Speedway! Thanks to Goodguys and, maybe more importantly, a crew of talented drivers, all in attendance can take advantage of this--that is, if they're up for 160-plus-mph laps!

In stark contrast to the perennial "chocolate vs. vanilla," we have lime vs. orange sherbet, except instead of a difference in taste, it's a combination of color! And for those who may have thought the two go together like water and oil, think again--here's a sample for you to savor!
