Suede is anything but pass these days. But unlike days of old, flat finishes come in practically every color under the rainbow--including the copper found on Michael Taylor's '59 Apache from Poteau, OK. Wide whitewall-shod Americans with rough-cast centers add a nice contrast to the high-gloss 'flake roof, while a bone-colored interior keeps everything in check. | Legens Hot Rod Shop in Tennessee just wrapped up Jim and Rocio Duffle's '40 Ford pickup early in 2006, and the proud new owners spent the following summer on the road touring with their knockout pickup. From the "shaved" Billet Specialties chromed wheels to the impeccable exterior finish, modern-style interior to the fully detailed undercarriage, this ain't no ordinary '40! | Our final Finest Five award from Fort Worth fittingly went to a local participant--Ric Medina and his '72 Cheyenne Super. Mostly restored inside and out (though very nicely, we might add), the short-wide has been updated with a 383 stroker motor, four-wheel disc brakes, and chrome 18/20-inch wheels. |
Though the opening image suggests otherwise, dark and gloomy clouds seem to have liked the Lone Star Nats almost as much as the spectators and participants. Fortunately, they only broke their water once for any length of time over the course of the weekend, so it was anything but wet at the Texas Motor Speedway. | Is there a new trend brewing on the horizon? Well, a handful of '59-60 El Caminos might not spell an impending fad, but we were quite pleased to find more of these types of trucks than usual--especially when done in a '60s mild-custom style such as this '59. | And while on the topic of trends, like it or not, faux patina doesn't seem to be "fading" from the scene (no pun intended). Jay Johnson's '37 Ford is a nice example of such, but unlike many others, it's been heavily updated beneath the weathered exterior. |
It's hard to beat a fully dressed Stovebolt--at least when it comes to looks. This 216 has been outfitted with all the goodies too: Edelbrock 2x1 with dual Rochesters; rare accessory spark plug cover; Sharp rocker cover; Edmunds air cleaners; and a set of coated Fenton cast-iron headers. | If the saying "shoes make the outfit" is true, then Nathan Hale's '53 Chevy 3100 owes a bit of gratitude to the Astro Supremes it's sporting with thin-whitewall radials--that and obviously plenty of work that went into the chassis to achieve the lowest of low stances. | It's not often we cross paths with mid-'50s Dodge D-100s--even less frequently ones as nicely redone as Arturo (last name TK!) '54 from Houston, TX. |
