Goodguys Car Show - Show 'N' Shine In Texas Standard Time
Ed Hopper from Gordon, TX, was happy to receive a jacket and a plaque for his efforts on his gorgeous '48 F-1. The Ford is built for show and go using a Flathead with tons of speed equipment, a five-speed trans, a Mustang II clip, and an interior that's comfier than most people's living rooms. We liked Ed's so much that we shot a full feature on it-look for it coming soon. | Keith Talley was another lucky guy who took a Top Ten for his '52 F-1. Keith's truck looks like a straight-up resto, but under the hood is another dressed Flathead with dual carbs, a Clay Smith cam, and a six-volt battery. This truck from Boyd, TX, and Ed Hopper's F-1 made such a nice couple sitting next to each other that we shot the two together for the feature. | It was tough to find a shot of Dennis Eaton's '48 Chevy without its hood open because he was busy all weekend surprising people with the giant 572 big-block crate motor nestled between its sunburnt fenders. Steve Silva from Santa Rosa, NM, built the truck for Dennis after he saw Steve's '52 Chevy in the June '06 issue of Classic Trucks. Now the two drive all over the country running amuck in their self-proclaimed "grunge trucks." Watch for a feature on this one, too. | Rob Boardman's '54 Ford F-100 might have been one of the cleanest sleepers at the show. The ultra-nice Effie sports countless coats of Sapphire Blue that suck you in when you get too close. The almost-stock exterior hides a Heidt's SuperRide IFS, and under the hood is a Sean Hyland-built 4.6 DOHC Ford hooked to an AOD trans and a Currie 9-inch. Nice work! | You might remember Scotty Gray's '47 Ford COE featured in Classic Trucks a while back-well, he's at it again with this '29 Model A roadster pickup that knocked 'em dead all weekend. The little black open-air hauler was light and low with lots of race car-inspired tricks like lightning holes drilled in everything and a stout Ford pushrod motor with a nice magneto sticking out of it! | Native Texan Lloyd Triplett drove his '46 Chevy truck to the show to do battle with the sun over whose flames are hotter. It's hard to tell exactly where, but Lloyd's truck has had a total of 5 inches of vertical height cut between the 3-inch chop: 2 inches out of the hood sides and grille to smooth out the post-war Bow Tie's lines. The '46 also has '37 Ford passenger car headlights, a 350/350 combo, and Chevelle underpinnings to smooth things out. | Judging by the looks of it, what do you think Keith Stephens' '68 C-10 has for a powerplant? An LS-1, or maybe a 572 crate motor? Nope, how about the original six-cylinder and Powerglide! The way-cool Chevy from Rockwall, TX, also sports big Billet Specialties wheels, Air Ride, and is used as a shop truck for Stoked Out Specialties. How could you not like it? | We're not sure if Brandon Carter from Corinth, TX, was actually dared to be different, but he was nonetheless with his '72 Dodge D-100. When was the last time you saw one of these Dodges at a show, let alone a customized one? Brandon's has a 400 big-block, a 727, and an 8 3/4 rearend, but that's just the tip of the iceberg. He also gave the D-100 a 6/8 drop over the 17- and 18-inch Boyd Coddington Harm wheels, and there's even a set of Bonspeed Roulet gauges inside the two-tone hauler. | Billy Pool from Mineola, TX, was awfully proud to show off his '53 F-100, aptly named Copperhead for its blinding paint job, and if that doesn't hinder your eyesight, maybe you'll notice the chrome grille, bumpers, and 20-inch wheels. Under the hood of any good Ford is a...just kidding, but Billy's Effie does have a Chevy 350 for power that moves the Fatman Fabrications chassis complete with their Mustang II IFS and four-link out back. |
