What's 9 feet tall and would look pretty good in your living room-besides a Christmas tree? How about the coveted America's Most Beautiful Roadster trophy? If you already have one or two of these you know what I'm talkin' about, but if not, that's what was up for grabs at this years Grand National Roadster show.
This show is the longest running-57 years, in fact-indoor car show around and is one of if not the most prestigious shows that caters to hot rods, customs, motorcycles, and, of course, trucks. It's been awhile since a truck won the big trophy, since it needs to be a roadster pickup, but Richard Peters did it two years in a row-in 1958 and '59.
The show was again held at the Pomona Fairplex, which has been home to the event for a few years now and shares the same grounds as the famous Pomona Swap Meet and the ever-pleasing NHRA Museum. With the reality automotive cable TV shows being all the rage, there were many stars on hand to sign autographs and answer the questions of star-struck spectators.
Trucks seemed to be the minority at the show, but that's not to say that what was there wasn't nice. Despite the low numbers, the quality of those in attendance were quite high and we all know that behind every nice show car there is a truck that made it all possible.
Lee La Marche owns this '72 C-10, which was built by Connie & Rick's Garage. Under the L&G's glossy paint is a stout 383/350/12-bolt combo. The short-wide rolls on Budnik wheels and is equipped with Vintage Air. | The majority of the trucks at the GNRS were of the pre-'48 variety and to show the diversity of what was there here's a '30 Model A roadster pickup with Air Ride and a blown '46 Lincoln V-12! | There was some cool stuff out in the parking lot, too. This F-100 panel looked right sitting on the ground with painted steel wheels, and serves as a rolling billboard. |
 | The tailgate says it all. Stay tuned for a full feature on this insanely cool F-100 from the Foose train of thought. | Chuck Travers is a local from Cerritos, CA, who brought his '56 F-100 to the show with a gaggle of Pickups Limited members who made themselves at home with this year's "California Beach Party" theme. |
