Show promoters take risks all the time, but the folks at Goodguys truly shook things up last year when they moved their established SoCal spring event from the greater Los Angeles area to Del Mar, just north of San Diego. Such a gamble can pay off royally or leave you empty-handed; Goodguys came out winning and the inaugural Del Mar Rod & Custom Nationals was a smashing success. Such a success, in fact, that this year's event (with sponsorship from K&N, Eagle One, and Motorsports Direct) was expanded to three days and the cutoff date reeled back from 1972 to 1964 to prevent overcrowding. Once again the Del Mar Fairgrounds was bursting at the seams with cool rods and customs, proving that you can have just as much fun the second time around.

In addition to the sea of cool rides, the sizeable swap meet, and the Mecum collector car auction, truck fans had twice as much to look forward to-double the CLASSIC TRUCKS picks, that is! That's right, this was the first event where the CT staff picked a Top Ten instead of just five. It didn't seem to make our job any easier, though, since there were tons of worthy trucks in attendance. Check out the following pages to see our selections (as well as sampling of the other haulers), then start making your plans to come to this beachfront bash next year.
