With the terrible events of 9/11 still extremely fresh in the minds of all Americans, this past November the folks from Brothers Chevy/GMC parts took it upon themselves to put together and host a benefit car/truck show in Chino Hills, California. And as was done by countless businesses, clubs, and individuals across the country, these fine folks stepped up to the plate to collect funds for the American Red Cross September 11th Disaster Relief Fund.
Anyone who's ever been involved in the planning and execution of an undertaking as complex as putting together a show of this kind knows that it's not an easy chore. And to do so with the express intention of donating the proceeds to a worthy cause is admirable. Though we couldn't attend all the benefit events held around the country, we at CLASSIC TRUCKS did want to show our support by covering an event which we're sure mirrored many throughout the land.
As most are aware, Brothers annually hosts one of the best Chevy/GMC truck shows in the West, so it was a pleasant change for all those involved to produce a show open to all years and makes of both cars and trucks. And judging by the number and enthusiasm of those gathered on the grounds of Ayala High School for the show, everyone agreed.
In addition of a huge contingent of some of SoCal's coolest cars 'n' trucks there were live performances by bands like the Hot Rod Trio and Interstate (a bitchin' alternative rock band made up of some Ayala H.S. seniors) playing throughout the day. There were also numerous auto and truck-based vendors, non-automotive vendors, and a plethora of great food and drink, as well. And as if that wasn't enough to guaranty a good time, there was even a gaggle of Lakers Cheerleaders circling the grounds (much the delight of every red-blooded male in attendance) saying hello and posing for snapshots.

This contemporary-styled pickup drew an admiring crowd throughout the day--no surprise to us. |  How's this for a dazzling...  How's this for a dazzling pair of deliveries? Maynard Troost's pure white 'n' steelie-shod '29 and Linda and Frank Kane's bright yellow, Halibrand--equipped street rods were right at home at the show and went a long way in making the gathering truly all-encompassing. |
 Danny Vasquez is the rightfully...  Danny Vasquez is the rightfully proud owner of this fine '65 Chevy shortbed Custom Cab. The right stance, a quartet of chromed smoothies, and a full complement of under-hood brightwork combine to make up one impressive ride. |  Though not quite rock 'n'...  Though not quite rock 'n' roll legends (yet), the band Interstate wowed the crowd (the post doo-wop crowd, anyway) with their raucous brand of alternative rock.
