Some may have tired of my oft-stated claim that the best part of the classic truck lifestyle is the people we meet and the friends we make. Fortunately nearly everyone I've met over the years seems to agree. Recently, I arrived at Texas Motor Speedway at about 7 a.m., and within two hours or so of wandering the infield show area I'd already run into a half dozen friends that I'd met at various other events over the years.
As the day progressed I ran into a few more friends as well. I also made my way through the outdoor vendor area to see what was new and to say hello while I was at it. After I made the rounds I then headed indoors to check out the product displays in there as well. As I made the rounds I ran across Linda and Bob Galbraith, owners of New Port Engineering (the go-to source for the best in classic truck electric windshield wiper assemblies and conversions). It had been a while since I'd had a chance to stop and visit and since I caught 'em in a rare slow moment I stopped to say hi. After exchanging pleasantries Linda informed me that they and New Port Engineering were celebrating their 25th anniversary! After a bit of congratulating I asked if I might help celebrate the occasion by passing on the news to rest of my friends – so here goes.
Bob and Linda started New Port Engineering back in 1989 with three vehicle wiper applications. Their product line has since expanded to include over 180 classic truck, hot rod, muscle car, and classic car applications. Their original product, the Clean Wipe Wiper Drive, is a vehicle-specific, bolt-in drive motor that attaches to OEM linkage. Their second generation of product, the Clean Wipe System, was designed to provide selected vehicles with dual wipers, upgrading them from their original OEM single wiper configuration. The Clean Wipe Systems include the wiper drive motor, linkage arms, wiper transmissions (pivots), and stainless arms and blades.
Bob and Linda both stressed to me that they and their staff wanted to thank all their loyal customers and dealers for their continued support over the past 25 years and to assure them that with the next generation involved in all aspects of the New Port Engineering processes they're looking forward to many years of continued service. And you know what? I am too. Heck, what are friends for?
